The truth about your crib mattress.

When I purchased my first crib mattress, I had no idea what I was doing.
I sought after the cheapest one, that was not going to cost me an arm and a leg.
I folded it in half and shoved it in my car and went home.
That should have been my first red flag.

There is an array of crib mattress brands out there, and it can be hard to know what one to buy.
Baby's on Broadway only carries the Sopora brand, not only because Adelle believes in the company and the quality of the mattress, she also owns one herself.

With Adelle, I made the decision to swap my crib mattress out for a Sopora Premium Plus.  My old mattress was a $40 one from Wal-Mart and has been used through 3 babies.
I asked my Husband to cut it open, because I wanted to see what the inside looked like.
You hear that they can harbor mold, dust mites, etc, but if you don't see it, do you believe it?
My issue was, that I always looked at it as a sales gimmick. How would big chain retailers, be allowed to sell something so bad for your baby?
I could not have been more wrong.

What I found when I cut open our mattress, was disgusting.
The first layer we peeled back had a terrible odor, was stained yellow (even though the company says it is a waterproof and perma-dri cover) The cheap "Firm Sleeping Layer" (as the company calls it) is barely anything placed on-top of 80 steel coils. The "Firm Sleeping Layer" (which consisted of 2 thin layers of cheap filler) was filled with rust, mold and dirt.
They state that it is sealed tight to prevent bed bugs, mites, mold, etc, but over time our mattress cracked and the perma-dri cover was split right down the middle, just from our little ones moving around in bed. so how is that preventing anything?
There was and is nothing firm about this mattress. The second baby would lay in it, it would crease and fold. I'm ashamed to say, I thought this was okay.

Sopora is a Mother Created and Mother Operated company.
Baby's on Broadway carries 6 different styles of Sopora crib mattresses in an array of price ranges.
I'm not saying you need to buy only Sopora, I'm just saying research, research, research before buying your mattress. There are a lot of brands in decent price ranges out there!

As I said earlier, I have the Premium Plus, which retails for $189.00 and I couldn't be more pleased.

Our baby had a fantastic nights sleep, she was not moving all around to try to find a spot in her bed that was comfortable.
The Premium Plus is a 5" mattress with ultrasonic welded seams and dual sleep surfaces. It is made with CertiPUR-US certified, and GreenGuard Children and Schools certified foam. The Premium Plus offers BabySafe side seams, which are welded with ultra-sonic sound waves to keep wetness out, allowing the inside of the mattress to stay clean. BabySafe seams are dropped to the sides of the mattress creating a seamless waterproof edge with no decorative cording or holes on the surface. This eliminates entry points for allergens, bed bugs and fluid leakage.

The Premium Plus offers square corners and edges to fit tightly into the crib, with no rounded corners or surface designs that can trap dirt or dust mites. The rectangular shape of the mattress, the same shape as the crib, holds sheets tight to keep baby safe.

The Premium Plus' medical grade, stretch knit mattress cover is compliant with all current safety standards. Its lightweight and pliable nature enables the baby's body to conform to the surface while allowing the inner construction to provide comfort and ergonomic support for which it was designed. The cover is vinyl, PVC, lead and phthalates free. It cleans easily with a damp sponge and won't retain unpleasant odors or stains.

Right now, Baby's on Broadway is offering 10% off your Premium Sopora Mattresses with the mention of this post.

I couldn't be happier that I made the switch. I feel awful that I didn't know what my baby was sleeping on. It was a huge reality check for me and putting an investment in your babies sleep and safety is #1.
